23rd – 27th April 2021

Many of us were looking forward to an extra long weekend at Onrus, some arriving as early as Thursday, and the last family will only leave on Friday this week!! But for the majority of us it was a four-night weekend. We had a bumper turn out with 25 sites booked.

During the course of Friday most of the members arrived to the sound of the waves and lovely blue skies and by the time that evening had arrived we all enjoyed a lekka gesels and much needed catch up around the various fires.
Saturday morning found everyone doing the own thing, some went shopping, others went for breakfast or some just spent the time relaxing or taking a stroll or venturing into the cold water for a dip. Leighton and I spent the afternoon preparing for the build a shwarma evening and by 7pm we were all ready for the onslaught. All the families came with their ready prepared meat fillings and all they had to do was warm it up and take a hot pita, thanks to Amy Pietersen for assisting with the toasting of the pitas, and fill it with their fillings and tuck in. Thereafter we sat around the geselsvuur and chatted into the wee hours of Sunday morning.

Sunday morning, we held the Indaba and thereafter some families packed up and headed back safely home. For the rest of us we enjoyed the day and were treated to some lovely snacks by Gen for her birthday and thereafter we all gathered along the road for our street braai and gesels vuur.

On Monday we were blessed with another beautiful day again and some members also packed up and headed home safely. Bronwyn and Ingrid celebrated their birthdays and thanks to Ingrid for the yummy cake. Once again, we gathered around in the evening and chatted around the gesels vuur.

So, Tuesday dawned and what was supposed to be a long weekend was suddenly over, most of us packed up and returned home safely.

Thanks to everyone for making it such a lovely time that we spent together.
